Lanchester & District Model Boat Club (LDMBC) is a largely informal group of model boat enthusiasts who meet during the summer to sail their boats; and during the winter to talk and drink tea
The club was formed more than twenty years ago (1992) and is quite small, as members do not in general like the formal structured nature of a large club and prefer to meet in a friendly, relaxed environment
Club members are friendly and knowledgeable and they make new members very welcome, giving advice and help on boating matters whenever required
We meet on Tuesday evenings every week during the summer months (May to October) at Ebchester boathouse, next to the River Derwent, from around 6 pm until 7.30 or 8.00 pm (depending on the weather). During the winter months we retreat to the small hall in Lanchester Community Centre on the last Tuesday of the month, from 7.30 pm (address below)
The majority of members’ boats are scale electric, with radio control. The range of boats regularly sailing includes tugs, merchant vessels, cabin cruisers, speed boats, steam launches and military vessels. Sizes range from 0.5 metres to 1.8 metres! The river depth is generally not suitable for yachts and we do not permit internal combustion engines due to noise and potential water pollution
Please feel free to come along and see what we do – even if you don’t have a boat! All ages are welcome. Access to the Lanchester Community Centre is easy, but please be aware that disabled access to the Ebchester riverside is poor
Contact can be made through the Secretary, John Sheehan, on 0191 3887 041 (day) or the Chairman, Ted Welding, on 0191 3733 046 (any time)
